  • and many more

Method

Corundum blasting, commonly known as sandblasting, is generally used for different purposes than glass bead blasting. However, the respective techniques are comparable. The blasting medium (corundum) is pressurised in a reservoir by means of compressed air and then blasted onto the work piece at the required pressure. The air jet containing the abrasive then hits the surface to be treated at high speed.

Corundum blasting aims to achieve rather coarser surface textures (Roughness Depths Rz).

Material

KCorundum consists of aluminium oxide and some other oxide components. Higher purity corundum consists of close to 100% aluminium oxide.

Standards

Corundum is a sharp-edged blasting medium and standardised according to DIN 8201 part 5 as natural mineral quartz sand. HN Strahltech Fürth GmbH uses normal corundum and high-grade corundum with grain sizes 220 - 355µm. Other grain sizes available on request.
